The 2026 SPE Subsea Well Intervention Symposium invites industry professionals, researchers, and thought leaders to submit technical papers that advance knowledge and showcase innovation in subsea well intervention.

Submission Categories

Themed, Strategies for Managing an Evolving Energy Landscape, this symposium explores how economical intervention strategies can unlock value across all markets dynamics, emphasizing the need for cost-effective, scalable, and sustainable solutions. As operators face increasing pressure to do more with less, the ability to extend well life, optimize production, and defer abandonment becomes a strategic imperative.

The Program Committee invites you to share your insights, showcase research, case studies, innovative technologies or applications, proactive planning, innovations, and lessons learned to support a path forward on:

SPE must comply with all applicable sanction laws, including those of the United States and the United Kingdom. This includes screening individuals and entities against applicable lists of restricted parties to determine whether SPE is prohibited from, among other things, providing services to or receiving services from such parties.

Before Submitting

  • Obtain company clearance, to ensure the company understands that if the proposal is accepted, you will be required to travel to the event to present. All travel expenses (airfare, hotel, registration) associated with attending the symposium are the responsibility of the company or individual attending. 
  • Write the proposal.
  • Gather all co-author information (name, title, institution name, phone number, and email address). All authors and co-authors must have an SPE.org account.
  • Find your SPE login information and make sure your SPE Profile is up to date.

ORCID ID

PLEASE NOTE: SPE is adopting ORCID ID (Open Researcher and Contributer ID), a widely accepted unique identifier for authors, giving them control over their content and eliminating ambiguities. All SPE contributors are encouraged (but not required) to have an ORCID iD.

Length of Abstract

Minimum: 225 words, Maximum: 450 words

Important Guidelines

Obtain necessary clearance from your management and start preparing now.

  • Manuscripts are optional.
     
  • If your paper proposal is accepted and you opt to submit a manuscript for inclusion in the symposium proceedings it will be due by 07 April 2026. 
     
  • Authors who do not submit a manuscript and the associated publication forms by the stated deadline will be withdrawn from the program and will not be allowed to present per SPE’s No Paper, No Podium policy.
     

  • If accepted, your paper proposal may be published in conference media, including on the SPE website.
     

  • Please Note: An agreement to present a paper at this SPE conference carries an obligation to participate in the event. For questions regarding the paper process, please visit: SPE's Author Guidelines for Papers.

 

A Word About Commercialism

SPE has a stated policy against use of commercial trade names, company logos or text that is commercial in tone in the paper title, text, or presentation slides. Use of such terms will result in careful scrutiny by the Program Committee in evaluation paper proposals and the presence of commercialism in the paper will result in it being withdrawn from the program.

Plagiarism Check

We expect authors to credit all sources used in their writings and not to represent work of others as their own. Authors found to have plagiarized the work of another are subject to having their paper removed from the conference program and from OnePetro. Future submissions from authors found to have plagiarized will be scrutinized carefully. In the case of students found to be plagiarizing the work of others, SPE may inform the student’s university.

In an effort to further improve SPE’s technical quality standards, all submitted conference papers will be checked for plagiarism.

Best Presentation Award

The Best Presentation Award recognizes the authors for their efforts and excellence in preparing and presenting their professional experiences. All presentations will be reviewed by the Program Committee in preparation for this Award. The Award will be presented on Thursday, 27 August 1630 – 1645 at Grand Ballroom AB.
