A reservoir model can match ten years of production and still put the remaining oil in the wrong place. An injector can appear to be performing better because pressure is falling, when the real cause is fracture extension into an unintended interval. A surveillance program can generate more data without resolving the decision it was meant to support. And a technically sound reservoir action can lose its value when well, network or facility constraints are considered. Increasingly, the decision boundary is broader: environmental and sustainability requirements are becoming embedded in field development and operating choices, so economic performance cannot always be considered independently of environmental outcomes. These are not failures of modelling alone. They are failures to recognize which uncertainties can change the preferred course of action once reservoir, operational, economic and environmental consequences are considered together.
Integrated Reservoir Management: Making Robust Decisions Under Uncertainty will examine these problems through operating cases rather than idealized workflows. Rio provides a relevant setting: Santos Basin developments combine heterogeneous carbonates, deepwater production systems and large-scale CO₂ reinjection, while Campos Basin brings decades of depletion, redevelopment and late-life decisions. Cases from the Middle East, North Sea, Gulf of Mexico and Southeast Asia will test what is transferable and what is not. Across the program, AI, advanced analytics and accelerated computation will be considered where they improve interpretation, uncertainty assessment or decision speed. Discussions will challenge when history matching stops adding value, what surveillance evidence justifies intervention, when CO₂ reinjection becomes demonstrable storage, whether facilities should constrain reservoir recovery, and whether faster modelling improves decisions or only analysis speed. Focused technical presentations will be followed by extended moderated discussion, with emphasis on evidence, decision consequences and what happened in the field.
