SwRI Guided Tour

Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) Flow Facilities Guided Tour
6 May 2026 | 1300–1600

SwRI

Join fellow workshop attendees for a guided tour and social gathering at Southwest Research Institute (SwRI). The tour includes stops at the Multiphase Flow Facility (MFF), Metering Research Facility (MRF), and CO2 flow loops. Attendees will learn about SwRI and specifically how flow components and flow measurement technology are integrated into test facilities at SwRI.  Enjoy light refreshments while networking at the end of the tour. Transportation between SwRI and the San Antonio Marriott Riverwalk Hotel will be provided. Closed-toed shoes are required.

The MFF is a comprehensive, high-pressure flow loop capable of providing field-realistic multiphase process conditions. For more than 15 years, the MFF has been a pivotal resource for a global clientele, delivering critical insights into the complex realm of multiphase flow. The MFF actively tests multiphase flow meters under highly accurate and stable reference flow conditions.

The MRF is an ISO 17025 certified high-pressure, natural gas calibration and flow research facility. The MFF is primarily used for meter development, meter calibration, and meter testing – simulating actual field operational conditions. The MRF provides the highest accuracy, controllability, and rangeability in the industry. The MRF also features a wet gas loop that has been used for measuring the performance of liquid droplet removal technology.

To supplement the MFF and MRF, SwRI also has an all-inclusive facility for testing CO2 machinery and flow components. The Turbomachinery Research Facility utilizes a multi-stage liquid CO2 pump and two separate MW-scale CO2 compressors, to test components or machines at liquid, supercritical, or multiphase conditions. By combining the CO2 storage system and machinery with existing heat exchangers and a gas burner, portions of the CO2 flow loop can exceed 700°C and 275 bar in various closed loop cycles.
