This session explores casing deformation challenges in multi-stage horizontal wells within the Haynesville Shale. Emphasis will be placed on case studies that examine suspected causes, highlight the importance of understanding the nature and extent of deformation, and outline mitigation approaches. Presentations will also detail remediation methodologies used to restore well access and performance when deformation occurs.

This session focuses on practical approaches to well and casing design that enhance integrity from spud to production. Topics include evolving design trends, critical considerations during drilling, casing installation, and cementing, and best practices. Operators will share field experiences and lessons learned, emphasizing how early design decisions and cross-functional planning can reduce deformation risk, issues during completions, costly interventions, and loss of lateral length.

Vaca Muerta is a very prolific shale formation in the Neuquén basin, Argentina. Casing deformation is one of the major development and operational issues for Vaca Muerta, which might be exacerbated by high pore pressure and a strike-slip stress regime. The development in this basin is in the early stages, which presents an opportunity not only  to share technologies currently applied in Vaca Muerta but also to learn from operations in more mature basins

This session will explore topics focused on re-entering wellbores where casing deformation challenges exist. We will explore techniques to regain access for plug and perf operations, successfully conduct plug drill out operations, full life cycle interventions, and re-fracturing. Presenters will share insights and provide practical solutions and innovative approaches to these challenges.
