Welcome from the Committee Chair

Dear ColleaguesMyles

As chair of the SPE Scale Symposium Programme Committee I would like to make you aware that this event will be returning to Aberdeen on 20-21 May 2026.

While our understanding of the factors that influence inorganic scale formation and control are constantly improving, more extreme environments for hydrocarbon recovery continue to emerge as we move deeper into the energy transition. These environmental challenges include physical properties such as high pressure/temperature, high total dissolved solids and high pH, location in the form of deep-water wells with complex subsea architecture, as well as unconventional long reach horizontal wells.

The inorganic scale challenges within energy technologies such as geothermal (high and low enthalpy) and Carbon Capture Utilisation and Storage (CCUS) are receiving more attention as these elements of the energy transition receive increased focus and so the committee are keen to hear about these industries challenges and solutions.

Held every two years, this event offers an unrivalled opportunity for you to share your challenges and solutions to inorganic scale control management, from fundamental research to hands on experience of tackling such challenges in field applications within the energy sectors.

If advancing scale management strategy is a priority for you this year, the upcoming SPE Scale Symposium offers an exceptional opportunity to deepen your technical edge. This year’s programme is built around highly focused technical sessions designed to address today’s most pressing inorganic scale challenges, from unconventional removal techniques and advanced chemical treatments to emerging low-carbon considerations and novel diagnostic technologies.

See you in Aberdeen!
