Welcome from the Committee Chair

Dear ColleaguesMyles

As chair of the SPE Scale Symposium Programme Committee I would like to make you aware that this event will be returning to Aberdeen on 20-21 May 2026.

While our understanding of the factors that influence inorganic scale formation and control are constantly improving, more extreme environments for hydrocarbon recovery continue to emerge as we move deeper into the energy transition. These environmental challenges include physical properties such as high pressure/temperature, high total dissolved solids and high pH, location in the form of deep-water wells with complex subsea architecture, as well as unconventional long reach horizontal wells.

The inorganic scale challenges within energy technologies such as geothermal (high and low enthalpy) and Carbon Capture Utilisation and Storage (CCUS) are receiving more attention as these elements of the energy transition receive increased focus and so the committee are keen to hear about these industries challenges and solutions.

Held every two years, this event offers an unrivalled opportunity for you to share your challenges and solutions to inorganic scale control management, from fundamental research to hands on experience of tackling such challenges in field applications within the energy sectors.

The 2026 Programme Committee invites you to share your knowledge at this unique and very well-attended event. We welcome your oral or poster abstracts in all inorganic scale related areas as noted in the list of technical categories, especially case studies with operational data to support effectiveness and sustainability of treatment programmes.

See you in Aberdeen!
