Call for Proposals

Behind Every Innovation is a Brilliant Mind

Share Yours at the 2026 SPE Scale Symposium.

Behind every technology, research, and strategy is an intellectual who has spent hours analysing information or perfecting an application. We thank you for your efforts on advancing the industry and invite you to submit an abstract proposal of your work. This is the opportunity to be published and soon take the stage.

SUBMIT YOUR PROPOSALS TODAY

The deadline to submit your abstract is 10 October 2025.

Abstract Content

A proper review of your abstract requires that it contain adequate information on which to make a judgement. Written in English and containing a maximum of 450 words, abstracts should be summarised into four (4) specific paragraphs:

  • Objective/Scope: Please list the objective and/or scope of the proposed paper (25-75 words).
  • Methods, Procedures, Process: Briefly explain your overall approach, including your methods, procedures and process (75-100 words).
  • Results, Observations, Conclusions: Please describe the results, observations and conclusions of the proposed paper (100-200 words).
  • Novel/Additive Information: Please explain how this paper will present novel (new) or additive information to the existing body of literature that can be of benefit to and/or add to the state of knowledge in the petroleum industry (25-75 words).

*Do not include title or author names in the body of the abstract. Title and author information will be requested separately through the submission system.

Submission Guidelines

  • Obtain necessary clearance from your management and start preparing now.

  • Authors whose paper proposals are selected will have an option to write a manuscript for inclusion in the event proceedings.
  • Obtain the necessary clearance for the proposed paper from your management, your partners, and customers BEFORE submission.
  • Paper proposals should be written in English and should provide clear and concise statements on the contents of the paper. It should include brief findings, solutions, impacts, and concluding remarks on the work.
  • Each author may submit a maximum of three paper proposals per symposium.
  • All abstracts must be a minimum of 225 words with a 450-word maximum as determined by the programme committee and specified on the online submission form.
  • Abstracts suggesting commercialism in any form will be rejected.
  • Abstracts should be submitted based on any of the topics listed under the technical categories.
  • The substance of the proposed paper must not have been published previously in trade journals or in other professional or technical journals.
  • The abstract should stand on its own and not refer to another work unless associated with the current work.
  • Authors should indicate their presentation preference: Technical presentation or Knowledge sharing ePoster presentation. The programme committee reserves the right to decide on the final allocation and presentation method.
  • Early submission is particularly important to ensure that the committee members have ample time to review the paper proposals. Submissions received after the deadline will not be considered. No exceptions will be made. The Final Submission Deadline is 10 October 2026.
  • Use the most current version of Chrome, Firefox, or Safari.
  • Confirm the machine or device being used is connected to a strong network without an active firewall or pop-up blocker.
  • Make sure the third-party cookies are not disabled.
  • Failure to full fill the publication requirements for authors who wish to publish their paper will result in removing your presentation from the symposium programme and will not be allowed to present.
  • Author notifications will be sent to each Presenting Author regarding the status of their submission by November 2025. Authors whose paper proposals are accepted will have an option to provide a manuscript for publishing in the multi-society library OnePetro.

ORCiD ID

SPE is adopting ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor ID), a widely accepted unique identifier for authors, giving them control over their content and eliminating ambiguities. All SPE authors will be required to have an ORCID iD during abstract submission starting
1 January 2023.

If you already have an ORCID iD, you can add it to your SPE Member/Customer Profile. Login to SPE.org and update your profile today!

A Word on Commercialism

SPE has a stated policy against use of commercial trade names, company logos or text that is commercial in tone in the paper title, text, or presentation slides. Use of such terms will result in careful scrutiny by the Program Committee in evaluation paper proposals and the presence of commercialism in the paper will result in it being withdrawn from the program.

Plagiarism Check

We expect authors to credit all sources used in their writings and not to represent work of others as their own. Authors found to have plagiarized the work of another are subject to having their paper removed from the symposium program and from OnePetro. Future submissions from authors found to have plagiarized will be scrutinized carefully. In the case of students found to be plagiarizing the work of others, SPE may inform the student’s university.

In an effort to further improve SPE’s technical quality standards, all submitted symposium papers will be checked for plagiarism.
