Stranded gas assets in Asia Pacific face challenges such as limited infrastructure, variable gas quality, high capital intensity, and ageing facilities, yet they remain critical to the regional energy supply. Unlocking these resources requires fit-for-purpose monetisation approaches, including floating LNG, small-scale LNG, virtual pipelines, and monetisation of high-contaminant gas across the entire value chain, tailored to asset-specific conditions. One effective strategy is the cluster development of multiple marginal fields, relying on collaboration between operators, regulators and buyers to deliver viable area development plans.
Development is further constrained by high costs, limited processing and transportation options, and complex regulatory requirements. Reducing costs through innovative designs, new technologies, operational efficiency and novel contracting models is essential, while improving recovery through EOR, stimulation, production enhancement and advanced reservoir modelling helps to maximise output. Operators must balance production targets with cost efficiency, guided by data-driven decision-making.
This workshop will explore practical strategies to unlock stranded gas in the Asia Pacific, with a focus on advanced technologies, innovative thinking, policy and fiscal frameworks, as well as practical case studies. Participants will gain insights into how integrating sustainability with smarter design, leaner facilities and outcome-based contracting can transform high-contaminant gas into reliable energy contributors.
