This initial session focuses on site selection and the screening processes involved, including key factors for storage selection related to storage capacity. The benefits of a holistic site characterization for subsurface fluid storage will be discussed and compared to traditional approaches for oil and gas exploration, with emphasis on the overburden section. This session will also discuss the geological and reservoir fundamentals for storage hereunder, containment mechanisms and requirements, and risk factors associated with storage, including induced seismicity and wellbore integrity.
