On behalf of the Organizing Committee, it is my pleasure to invite you to the upcoming Workshop Maximising Mature Assets Production through Revitalisation Options.
Mature fields, or brownfields, are oil and gas assets characterised by declining production and advanced operational age. Despite this decline, the mature fields account for almost 70% of world production, have the current recovery factor of less than 40%, and when compared with other fields (e.g. deepwater, greenfield) they represent the most significant capacity to provide future production. Consequently, the energy sector must prioritise brownfield development by creating and deploying advanced technical solutions.
The primary objective of mature fields revitalisation is to maximise production and slow down natural decline rates, all while minimising capital and operating expenses. Meeting these conflicting goals requires a combination of practical engineering, targeted geological workflows, and modern technology. However, operators frequently resist adopting new technical solutions due to strict cost constraints. As a result, many mature assets still rely on their original, decades-old installation technology, causing them to perform significantly below their actual economic and productive capacity.
The mission of the workshop is to establish a global forum of experts dedicated to sharing strategies, proven workflows, and practical solutions for maximising production and slowing decline rates in mature fields. The workshop will explore key options to revitalise mature assets, focusing on subsurface optimisation, production engineering, infrastructure integrity, and resource accessibility. We hope that by facilitating technical discussions and creating networking opportunities, we will foster interdisciplinary collaboration in addressing critical strategic challenges related to revitalising mature fields for the continued development of the energy industry.
We look forward to welcoming you to the workshop.
