Carbonate Reservoirs are Among the Most Prolific Hydrocarbon Systems Globally
Carbonate reservoirs are among the world’s most prolific hydrocarbon systems, yet they can also be among the most difficult to develop. Heterogeneity, complex pore systems, karst and natural fracturing create uncertainty at every scale—from pore to platform to the field development plan. These challenges are compounded by mature gas fields approaching cessation of production, some with high CO₂ or H₂S content; the need to reduce operational carbon emissions; and growing interest in repurposing depleted carbonate reservoirs for carbon capture and storage.
This workshop brings together geoscientists, petrophysicists, reservoir engineers, drilling engineers, surface engineers and field development planners to examine how integrated development and management workflows perform against real field challenges. Participants will explore how integrated development decisions can simultaneously maximise recovery, enhance project value and support lower-carbon operations. Discussions will focus on technologies and approaches that are commercially available and have been applied in the field, rather than those still at the conceptual stage.
