Technical Session 3: Integrated Subsurface Development Planning and Forecasting

Tuesday, 25 November
Colosseum 2, Level 2
Technical Session

Session Managers: Shodiq Rofieq, Computer Modelling Group Ltd; Mohd Fairuz Azman, PETRONAS; Yeap Yeow Chong, SHELL

This session offers a focused overview of advanced reservoir engineering and simulation techniques tailored for complex carbonate reservoirs. Participants will be presented with dual-porosity and dual-permeability modeling approaches, essential for accurately representing naturally fractured reservoirs and understanding matrix-fracture interactions.

The session also covers dynamic modelling and uncertainty definition, equipping engineers with workflows to manage geological and operational uncertainties in fractured carbonates especially when modelling green fields or history matching mature fields with limited appraisal and surveillance data. Practical strategies and analogue-based techniques will be discussed to improve model reliability under data constraints. There will also be sharing on integrated reservoir development planning, that align subsurface understanding with field development strategies. Participants will explore well placement and completion design strategies in heterogeneous carbonate settings, including techniques to maximize recovery from thin oil rim or gas column systems.

Through real-world case studies and interactive discussions, this session aims to enhance participants’ ability to make informed, data-driven decisions in the development and management of complex carbonate assets.
