Training Courses

SPE works with recognized experts to develop training courses covering a wide range of industry topics. Participants receive 0.8 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for one-day courses.

One-day courses are available on Friday, 26 March and all will take place virtually.

Introduction to Coiled Tubing Operations

Instructor: Ed Smalley

The course will provide participants with a basic knowledge of coiled tubing operations and the equipment utilized to deploy it in the field. It will highlight key pre- job design parameters required for successful field operations. Participants will also have the opportunity to utilize coiled tubing modeling software during the course to better understand the impact of changing field job parameters on the outcome of the field operation.

Installation and Workover Control Systems (IWOCS)

Instructor: Brian Skeels

This course provides participants with a background review of subsea production control systems and specific knowledge of Intervention Work-Over Control Systems (IWOCS) as they interact with subsea productions systems. This is followed by an interactive class discussion of operations scenarios, illustrating IWOCS usage and some situational challenges encountered during subsea hardware installation and well interventions.

Rigless Intervention Best Practices for Coiled Tubing, Slickline, and Wireline

Instructors: Ron Zbitowsky and Todd Green

This short course is designed to provide knowledge and understanding of surface equipment, downhole tools, various applications, and operational contingencies for rigless well interventions involving coiled tubing, slickline, or wireline. The course will cover recommended risk mitigation and well control barriers as well as best practices gained from years of experience and application.
