BO01 Breakout Sessions

Wednesday, 3 December

Cascade Ballroom

Topic 1: Casing Deformation Analysis: Where Do We Start, Where Do We Go, and Everything In Between

In this breakout discussion, we discuss the various drivers for delving into casing deformation analysis.  What are the drivers for performing caliper logging on thermal wells (regulatory, a foundational element of a well integrity program, redrill preparation, etc)?  What tools do we run, how is the data interpreted, and by whom?  Most importantly, how do the results of these analyses inform critical decisions regarding well integrity and end of well life?  Through use of typical well examples, participants are encouraged to engage in an open discussion regarding these topics, and more.

Facilitator: Barkim Demirdal, Canadian Natural Resources & Doug Goda, ConocoPhillips Canada

Ivor Petrak Room Topic 2: Digitization and AI-Based Monitoring

We  will explore the accelerating role of AI and digitization across the thermal wells in Western Canada, examining the major drivers behind digital transformation, including operational efficiency, real-time surveillance and monitoring, and cost-effective decision making. We will discuss the digital and AI-enabled tools now being deployed by operators, service companies, and researchers, how data from these technologies is interpreted, and how the resulting insights guide critical decisions related to production optimization, well integrity, and end-of-life strategies.

Facilitator: Hossein Izadi, Precise Downhole Solutions & Fernando Gaviria, Suncor
Alhambra Ballroom Topic 3: Lessons from the Trenches: Exploring Liner Failures and Remediation Strategies

This candid, case-based breakout invites participants to collaborate on compelling stories of liner catastrophes — what went wrong (who knows?), how it was fixed (so many $$$$!), and how it can be prevented going forward (next time will be different).  Then we’ll solve all those problems in one hour so you can put that in your year-end KPIs!  The only AI will be that used while making this description.

Facilitator: Sam Miller, Noetic Engineering, Isma Ismail, Inflow Control & Jesse Stevenson, Variperm FET
