Steve Melzer is a consulting engineer in Midland, Texas specializing in reservoir properties, horizontal well reservoir depressuring projects and CO2 enhanced oil recovery. He also provides engineering and business planning services for a variety of U.S. and International commercial clients in the oil and gas, industrial gas, coal, power and lower carbon emission sectors. His work on the origin and distribution of residual oil zones (ROZ) has led to their commercial exploitation through the use of both CO2 EOR and horizontal wells. The ROZ related work has also led to a team of folks currently documenting the roles of ductile formations in both induced and natural faults and fractures allowing new insights into produced water disposition and oil and gas entrapment. He co-owned an oil and gas operating company for 15 years and manages a family partnership with oil and gas non-operating and royalty investments in Texas, NM and Oklahoma. He is a member of SPE and AAPG and serves on the board of directors for two energy companies and several local non-profit entities. He has a BS in geological engineering from Texas A&M and a MS degree in Engineering (Rock Mechanics) from Purdue University.
