Eng. Salah El-Din Abdel Kareem Awad is the Chief Executive Officer of the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) and one of Egypt’s prominent petroleum industry leaders, with more than three decades of experience across the upstream and petroleum sectors.

A Petroleum & Mining Engineering graduate from Suez University (1993), Eng. Salah began his career in 1994 as a Drilling Engineer at Gulf of Suez Petroleum Company (GUPCO), where he built a strong technical and operational foundation before advancing into senior executive positions.

Throughout his career, he has led several major petroleum companies, serving as Chairman & Managing Director of the Egyptian Chinese Drilling Rig Manufacturing Company, North Sinai Petroleum Company, Egyptian Drilling Company, and Badr El Din Petroleum Company.

He returned to GUPCO as Chairman in 2022, before being appointed CEO of EGPC in September 2024.

Today, Eng. Salah El-Din Abdel Kareem combines deep field experience, strategic leadership, and extensive knowledge of Egypt’s petroleum industry, playing a key role in driving operational excellence, sustainable production, investment, and strategic growth across the sector.
