SPE Forum: Accelerating
the Adoption of Digital to
Transform Drilling and Wells

8–11 October 2024 | Montgomery, Texas

Well construction is the largest cost for most operators and yet conversely maintains stubbornly high levels of non-productive and invisible lost time.

Operators are increasingly embracing digital well construction systems that exchange design, planning, and operations information between internal stakeholders, service providers, contractors, and others.

The methods, processes, and tools vary, but the intent is to enable corporate strategies to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of well delivery by removing waste and risk while collaboratively optimizing and applying lessons learned into well requirements, design, planning, and operations.  The result is a resilient, corporate value stream management system with quantifiable uncertainties and benefits.  These new systems will manage the overall well-construction value streams, waste reduction, and transformation opportunities in procurement, storage, logistics, tracking, and usage, as well as in engineering and management of change.

Participants will systematically explore digital drilling and well construction value streams from an integrated design, planning, and operations perspective.  These aspects will be examined considering cultural, technological, procedural, and commercial implications to determine how to address the challenges on the way toward a future state of a successfully integrated digital well construction ecosystem.

The forum scope covers the well construction process from receiving subsurface requirements through handoff to production from the perspective of the stakeholders tasked with delivery (such as drilling and completion engineers, superintendents, planners, managers, subject matter experts, and others) and those supporting it (such as contractors, service providers, software providers, IT team members, and others).

ℹ️ A written summary will be prepared and distributed to participants after the forum at the discretion of the steering committee and SPE approval.
